GAS LEAK TEST WITH THE SAFE-T TORCH™
GAS LEAK TEST WITH THE SAFE-T TORCH™

To perform a leak test with the Safe-T Torch™ system in place, follow these steps:

Step 1

Close Torch Valves: Ensure the valves on the torch body are fully closed.

Step 2

Install Battery: Install the battery and verify that the enclosure is energized by twisting and releasing the Red Emergency Stop Button, then pulling the Safe-T Torch™ Trigger to illuminate the green light.

Step 3

Gas Supply: Turn on the gases to their specified pressure (Oxygen Max 60 PSI, Fuel Max 15 PSI) from the cylinders or manifold.

Step 4

Pressure Check: Pull the Safe-T Torch™ Trigger again until both red lights illuminate, indicating pressure in the lines. Release the trigger.

Step 5

Turn Off Supply: Turn off the supply pressure at the cylinders or manifold.

Step 6

Leak Observation: Hold the trigger (green light illuminated) and observe if the pressure regulators’ “low pressure” gauges lose any pressure over 5 minutes, or if one or both red lights turn off. This indicates a leak in the hoses, fittings, or torch body valves. Note: Depending on the length of hoses and type of leak, it may take less than a minute or more than 5 minutes for the red lights to turn off.

Step 7

Leak Detection and Repair: If a leak is detected, stop the test and identify the source. Inspect, tighten, or replace any faulty components as needed. This issue may affect the oxygen side, fuel side, or both simultaneously.

Step 8

System Verification: If the pressure regulators’ “low pressure” gauges do not show a drop in pressure, up to 5 minutes (or more), your system is OK to use.

Step 9

Micro Leak Check: First complete steps 1 to 5. Then, release the Safe-T Torch™ trigger and monitor the system for an extended period (potentially several hours or overnight). If either red light turns off during this time, it indicates a micro leak. In that case, proceed with step 7.

Step 10

Pre-work Inspection:  Always inspect for leaks before starting work.

Other Benefits of the Safe-T Torch™ System
  1. Reduce consumable costs.
  2. Enhance workplace safety by minimizing injuries and lost time.
  3. Help prevent or minimize increases in Workers’ Compensation or insurance premiums.
